Decks remain a popular choice when it comes to home improvement and reviewing deck plans can go a long way in helping you to decide what kind of deck you want. Choose deck plans that have a proven track record for best results before you start building your own deck.

1. Design the Deck

Before you even begin to build the deck you first need to cover some basic things such as where the deck is going to be situated as well as the size it is to be. You will also need to determine the materials you intend to use and how access to the deck will be achieved.

Next you should contact your local zoning board so that you are aware of the permits and licenses that you might need. Review some deck design plans to help you get a few ideas regarding the look and feel of the deck that you want.

2. The Layout

When it comes to completing this project successfully you should determine the right locations for the deck footings and to do this there are two methods to use: Firstly, Install a ledger board to determine 2 positions at the house to work from. Secondly, do not forget that your deck plans will be in 2D and so you will need to make sure that your lines are leveled. This will ensure that your deck is not misshapen upon completion.

3. Setting the Posts

You need to dig a hole and pour concrete into it. A 60 pound bag of ready mix would be advisable. Place the concrete pier into the still wet concrete within the hole. The concrete will obviously harden around the pier and so provide stability.

By use of a screw gun and screws you then need to fix the post to the pier. By following this method the post will be neither inside the concrete nor underground and therefore exposed to the elements. The post will then be attached above the ground between the metal anchors which are attached to the pier.

4. Framing the Decking

It is vital that you use heavy-duty supports and pressure-treated lumber when constructing the component parts as the deck framing needs to be sturdy enough in order to properly support both the weight of the deck and hold up with the passage of time.

Just like proper framing is important for houses likewise it is important for decks. There are a number of ways to achieve proper framing which include installing ledgers and beams so as to pour concrete piers and cutting stair stringers. If you need some free advice regarding deck details you should approach your local building authorities.

5. The Deck Stairs

This part is rather simple and anybody with a limited amount of knowledge when it comes to construction really should be able to construct an attractive set without much hassle.

Most people opt for one or two flights of stairs from the deck to the surrounding yard. Depending upon your aesthetic preferences you can choose from a variety of different ways to do this. Bear in mind that some municipalities do have specific codes that you will need to be aware of and take into account when you design and then construct the stairs. Some cities actually require a minimum width of 3 feet for the stairs so find out about that first.

6. Completing the Deck

All decks will face adverse weather conditions and if you neglect to apply a protective coating to your completed deck you will run into problems sooner or later. To avoid the wood weathering you should make sure that you finish it soon after you have completed building it. Woods such as pressure treated wood, cedar, and redwood are all examples of wood that will require protection.

Finding suitable blinds and shades for the outside of the home can be a challenge as the materials need to withstand all different weather conditions. When curtain materials are left for a certain length of time outside it tends to not last very long. This is even the case within enclosures such as conservatories, patios and outside gazebo buildings.

The sun tends to fade blinds and shades quite quickly, especially colors such as yellow. If they are left outside they can deteriorate in a matter of months.

To get around these problems, bamboo shades are a very good option to use for outdoor shades and blinds. Bamboo is a natural plant that grows in very difficult weather conditions. So it goes without saying that it is a very good material to use for outdoor furniture. It does not fade very easily and does not absorb moisture when left out in the rain.

Bamboo shades can be used outside or inside the home and can provide a natural look to the room. You can buy them in different colors if you do not wish to stick to the natural brown color. The paint will eventually fade over time, even if it is used in the conservatory or enclosed patio area.
Popular choices when looking for window treatments is to go for roller blinds, venetian blinds or roman blinds. Roller blinds can be used in any room or office to provide a fresh look and compliment just about any décor.

Bamboo can easily be matched up with other natural furniture materials such as wood, bamboo and cane. They are very affordable and are readily available from many local retailers and online stores. Before deciding on a particular window treatment, make sure that you have the correct measurements. A good tip is to make sure that the online store provides a return policy, just in case you are not happy with the shades for whatever reason.
